Apparently, the operator of the truck attempted to stop it before the truck began careening out of control, but he was run over by the truck in the process. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by emergency workers.
The truck continued to roll toward a busy street, where it collided with two other vehicles. A passenger in one of the vehicles was killed in the collision, and several people were hospitalized with varying degrees of injuries as a result of the accident. Police responded to the scene and began an investigation; however, at this point, little is known about why the truck began rolling away from the job site while it was unoccupied. One theory is that the operator failed to secure the truck’s emergency brake before exiting.
