Liability When Injured by Truck as a Passenger in a Taxi Cab in New Mexico

Posted in Firm News

Car accidents are an inevitable risk that individuals must take when traveling. Often, people rely on their driving skills and attention to avoid these situations, but when a person is a passenger in a vehicle, they lose that sense of control over situations that may arise. This is especially true when a person is traveling in a taxi cab or similar vehicle.

Although accidents involving passengers may seem straightforward, they are often not, especially if a truck is involved. Generally, a taxi-cab passenger will likely be able to collect damages from either the taxi-cab driver or the truck driver, since one party has to be liable or partially liable for the accident. Issues arise when neither party will assume responsibility, or if liability is difficult to attribute.

There are certain steps that an injured person must take to ensure that the case gets resolved quickly and without issue. First, after a party has been injured, it is important that they get all of the contact information of the parties involved. It may be difficult to do this if any of the parties is severely injured, but it is important to try and remember as much information as possible. The party should then immediately contact police officials.

If the passenger is lucky enough not to need an ambulance, they should take as many photos as possible. With the advent of smart phones, this should not require much effort. The parties may want to leave the scene of the accident, but you must insist that everyone remain, as long as medical intervention is not needed, until the police arrive. If medical care is required, everyone should remain at the scene until police give them permission to leave

These cases can be seemingly endless because the parties must wait for police investigations, insurance investigations, and claim disputes. It is important that you contact an experienced attorney to help you navigate these issues and seek the compensation you deserve.

Truck and Taxi Cab Involved in 11-Vehicle Crash in Miami, Resulting in One Fatality

Earlier this month, a Miami dump truck slammed into the back of a taxi, which resulted in the death of the taxi’s passenger. According to a news report, the accident caused a domino effect, and nine additional cars were involved and seven people sent to the hospital.

Luckily, the crash was caught on the camera from a nearby liquor store. The video shows eight cars, the truck, a hospital transport bus, and a scooter all in various states of disarray. Witnesses and residents stated that they often hear quick braking in the area, but the noises from this accident were significantly louder.

Miami police officials explained that the taxi cab burst into flames, and the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Police have not indicated who, if anyone, will be charged and what those charges may be. However, they are hopeful that the video footage will help them determine and apportion liability.
